Separation of Powers
Every week, the kid starts with a balance of whatever allowance you decide, say $50....each chore, homework, getting out of bed to get to school, everything that makes an adult responsible has a value....
Homework not ready for the next day's school...2.00
Getting up late....2.00
Not washing the dishes....5.00
If they are responsible, they end the week with $50, if not, then whatever is left.
Their allowance is their pay to purchase the things they want..
"I want a new pair of sneakers!" Well, that's $100, two weeks allowance. In the long run, it pays...you stop having to buy all the crap that catches their attention and they learn that if they really want it, they will have to be responsible. It works really well when there are more than two kids. I have a few, so when the oldest would see that the younger siblings were walking away with the full-boat allowance, it motivated them. Nothing serves as a better motivator for a kid than sibling rivalry.

Still nothing credible?
by Separation of Powers ini can hardly believe that anything new is gonna be announced at the annual meeting.
i mean, there is absolutely no one i know in this organization capable of keeping a secret and we haven't heard anything but "big changes are coming" "just wait and see" "big things are in the works" and my personal favorite posted by one of our members who was told not to diassociate because "things are gonna be announced that will change your mind".. no one i know at the hall or in positions of responsibilty has ever been able to keep anything confidential.
it's always been like the character on in lving color, "i aint one to gossip...but you didn't hear that from me.".

Come with me, back to the 1980s--you know want to.
by FlyingHighNow ini don't know about ya'll, but i did not appreciate the 1980s enough.
i was too busy lamenting how different they were from the 1960s and 1970s to bask in and appreciate how wonderful they were.. this is 80s music, especially new wave music, and 80s fashion and culture appreciation thread.
what did you love about the 80s?

Elders, apostasy and disfellowshipping issue's - thoughts please
by FeelingFree inok so... when i was talking to my mil about why i no longer wanted to be a witness she kept trying to convience me that i needed to speak to the elders.
i said from the word go i didn't feel the need to as my mind was already made up and no one could change it.
i also said if the elders new all my reasons for leaving they would view me as an apostate and i would get disfellowshipped.

It is easy to blind one's self to the reality, as is the case with your IL's. Although you may express doubts and doubts in and of themselves are not disfellowshippable (is that a word?), there are, almost inevitably, members of the bodies of elders that will not be able to discern doubt from apostasy. So, be careful when expressing anything with them.
I heard of a case where a brother just lost all religious perspective. Issues in his life affected his faith in everything to the point where he simply did not believe anymore in anything. He told the elders he no longer believed. Some wanted him out. Others felt compassion for him, cause they knew of his situation. He wasn't a threat to anyone. He kept to himself. Didn't communicate with anyone really. Still, there was this almost vehement desire to see him ousted by a number of the body. Is agnosticism apostasy? I doubt it. The moral of the story.....fading is safer than speaking.

But buying millions of dollars in property for the Lord's work isn't? The God I worship isn't short of cash mister, and just like in Solomon's time, he "doesn't dwell in human abodes."
